1. Do you like eating on board?
2. Could you explain any difference between preparing food to be eaten in a restaurant and to consumed on board?
3. Did you know all of the process told in the video? Have anything called your attention?
I love eating on board! but since many companies do not offer this service, I do not usually order anything when flying.
ReplyDeleteThe video is quite shocking, I never imagined that food to be consumed on board is so carefully planned! I thought this only happened in restaurants.
What catches my attention most is the way they try to keep all the food fresh and ready, even the presentation. Another thing I did not know is that they prepare food depending on the destination.
Hello Antonio:
ReplyDeleteAs you have seen food must be prepared in the same way wherever it is going to be served. They must be very careful when handling it.
Thansk for your comments.
Lucía.
Eating on board is an exciting experience and one of those moments where I have more peace of mind when I fly ... I hate flying .. lol,
ReplyDeleteI already knew the food preparation process, as I worked at the airport of Barajas and I have friends who work in the catering service of Iberia, but what surprised me was that the menu is different depending on the destination.
The hygienic measures are taken very seriously, which reassures me a lot, because since the meals are prepared until are served can spend a few hours and corrupt.
What the video does not show, and it's very important to me as a worker, is the assembly line system that carries this type of food preparation. It is very stressful and of course, the less friendly face of this type of work.
I like eating on board. One of the last time I travelled, I did it on first class, because the company that I worked in paid me the ticket this way. The crew served me some food, and I didn't have to pay anything. The other times I have flown, I have bought some sandwiches, because when I flight, I use to be hungry.
ReplyDeleteI don't see differences between preparing a food on board and in a restaurant. Maybe the quantities are bigger in an airline, but nothing else.
I observed they are very hygienic handling food, but this is something I could expect, because they will have a lot of inspectors monitoring the process and the results.
Yes, Gisela, I also worked for an international fast food company in England some years ago (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and the hygienic handling of food is extraordinary good, perhaps because they were inspected, not only by the company itself but also by the Bristish administration. We usually tend to think that fast food restaurants or catering has not good quality of products or the way of processing is too artificial, but they have their own rules in order to keep a high standard
ReplyDeleteI've never flown in a company that has offered me a menu as shown in the video. I think that it must be paid for, or that “menu on board” is only offered in business class or on intercontinental flights. The last time I have flown, the airline has only offered me a cheese sandwich and a soft drink and I liked to eat on board because it was a way to save time and of course it was very well prepared and packaged.
ReplyDeleteHi José,
ReplyDeleteSo this topic is not really new for you as you must know all the secrets about catering! ;-)
You are totally right, the hygienic measures are taken very seriously so be can feel safe when eating on a plane!!
Kind regards,
Lucía.
Hi Gisella,
ReplyDeleteProbably the main differences are the hygienic measures as food is taken from one place to another until we eat it.
By the way, "because when I flight, I use to be hungry." you must say "I am usually hungry".
Thanks a lot for you comment.
Bye!
Lucía.
Yes, Antonio, that's right, they must keep a high standard or otherwise any mistake regarding food would mean a disaster for this companies.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Lucía
Hello Jeronima,
ReplyDeleteFood on borad must be totally fresh as they risk problems on board if soeone gets ill after eating, let's say, a sandwich in bad conditions.
Do you, students, believe one day we will have free food on board again? Why/Why not?
Best,
Lucía.
I think not, because entrepeneurs are more worried about having benefits than about satisfying clients. They have checked that it's a good way to save money, so they won´t offer again free food on board.
ReplyDeleteWhat´s the point in offering food on board in a 2-hour journey? For a long one it´s different, I mean, if you cross the Atlantic or so, but otherwise companies would not have so many benefits as Gisela says
ReplyDeleteHi Gisela,
ReplyDeleteRemember to say "When I fly" and "I don't think so" or "I think so".
Good comment.
Best,
Lucía.
Hello Antonio,
ReplyDelete"For a longer one" may suit better here. Good.
Regards,
Lucía.
I do not like to eat on board, I only do it when I am hungry cause I usually try to eat at the airport waiting to board.
ReplyDeleteThe most important difference between preparing food to be eaten in a restaurant and to consumed on board is that on board is cook-chill food.
I didn´t know the process told in the video. I supposed the catering was done outside the airport by external companies.
I don't like to eat on board, because the food prepared in this video i don't like.
ReplyDeleteI know tre process told in the video, because I'm cooking in a enterprise restaurant and I do food for 300 people more o less
